The NFL season is upon us

Today marks the first day of regular season play in the NFL. The Saints and Vikings will replay last year’s NFC Championship. Personally, I like the Vikes tonight.

As for the other 30 teams, here is where I think they end up in order of division finish.

AFC East

New England Patriots: Tom Brady has had over a year of recovery time, apparently Wes Welker has Wolverine’s healing powers (or HGH) and the Pats continue to carry 4,569 running backs. The defense isn’t pretty but Bill Belichick will find a way to get the group in the top-10.

New York Jets: I think Mark Sanchez is still too shaky as a starter in the NFL. Maybe he will prove me wrong and blow up for 5,000 yards. Or maybe he and LaDanian Tomlinson will have sub-par years that don’t live up to their hype. Either way, the Jets ‘D’ will carry them. If Dustin Keller can be an adequate security valve for Sanchez and Shonn Green runs for a million yards, the Jets will do fine.

Miami Dolphins: The Dolphins did quite a bit of retooling in the offseason. However, I don’t think they are good enough to top New York and New England. That’s ok, they will improve. Especially Chad Henne, his career arc is key for the long-term viability of this franchise.

Buffalo Bills: I love this team. Unfortunately, they aren’t going to be very good. No matter how much time he gets, Trent Edwards will just be o.k. Add to that the fact that his line isn’t much better than last year – yeah, I figured you could do the math. C.J. Spiller is exciting and the secondary is sick. I still think they will yield a lot of rushing yards but that is to be expected with the change in scheme. I just hope to God they are willing to spend the money on Jake Locker next summer. One Man Wolfpack is ready for 2010

I have returned to the world of fantasy football under the team name of One Man Wolfpack.

I need a big year from Adrian Peterson if I hope to succeed in my return to fantasy football.

I had some trouble with my name. While One Man Wolfpack won out I was tossing around the names Johnny’s Bananas, Sex Panthers and Channel 4 News Team. Feel free to steal my team names. Continue reading

Big Ben suspension reduced

Not surprised to hear this news come down from the NFL.

Every major sports league has been on their soap box hollering that they are going to crack down on any inappropriate behavior on, or off, the playing field – no matter how big of a star they are talking about.

Big Ben will be back after a four-game suspension this season. The original ruling was for a six-game ban.

Bills trim three from roster – prepare for final preseason game

After a convincing 35-20 win over Cincinnati last Saturday, the Bills head into their final tune-up before the 2010 regular season debut.

Lonnie Harvey (#72) was among the first three players cut by the Bills.

The Bills defense and special teams were still shady but the offense looked impressive in toasting the Bengals for 28 points (Reggie Corner scored the final TD on an interception). Continue reading

Where the Bills go from here

Training camp is over. The preseason is not. However, there isn’t much time left before the cuts are made.

There are numerous darkhorses to make this team among the draft picks and undrafted free agents. Plus, there are numerous position battles still waging as the Bills come back to Orchard Park.

Bills camp ends with a bang

Well, maybe a pop or some other small noise. But at least it didn’t end in silence.

Chan Gailey took the time to head over to a group of teenage fans who had been heckling the Bills – mainly Trent Edwards – and gave them a piece of his mind. Here is the quote from Allen Wilson at the Buffalo News.

“You dog one of us, you dog all of us!”

Gailey also told the fans, who stood in stunned silence, the players would not be coming to sign autographs for them.

”They said some things during practice that were derogatory to a couple of our players,” Gailey explained to the media a few minutes later. “And if you say something derogatory to one of us you say it to all of us, so I told [the players] not to sign for that group.”

Bills improve in second preseason game

Watching the Bills this past Thursday was like watching a completely different team from the Buffalo Bills that took the field two weeks ago against the Washington Redskins.

More for Four

Brett Favre is coming back for a 20th season. The Minnesota Vikings nation can stop holding their breath. Honestly, who wants Tavaris Jackson as their starter? (Put down your hand Dick Jauron)

Brett Favre is coming back for his 20th season. Will he go out on top?

So, Favre is allegedly coming back, at least according to Ryan Longwell. Continue reading

Did you expect any less from the Bills?

The Bills looked bad in their preseason debut, really bad. But, is this surprising at all?

The Bills enter this season with a new head coach, a new defensive scheme, a huge question mark at quarterback and a questionable offensive line. A 42-17 loss in the preseason opener is almost to be expected. Giving up 42 points probably isn’t what you want to see though.

Time for Darrelle Revis to wake up

I am perfectly okay with Darelle Revis holding out for the entire season. I would be even more okay with him being traded to the NFC. For now, his holdout will have to do.

However, I don’t understand what he thinks he is accomplishing by staying away from Jets training camp. I got it, he is proving that he is a typical selfish athlete who thinks the parts are greater than the whole.

Darelle Revis. Another athlete who isn’t capable of waiting his turn.
