Winning Picks Abound With the Lululemon x Fanatics NHL Collection

Last month, I got a look at some of the newest items in Lululemon’s NHL apparel line. The Lululemon and NHL collaboration, in partnership with Fanatics has dropped a range of apparel for all 32 NHL teams in both men’s and women’s styles.

Both myself and Mrs. 2ITB picked up a few items, including the Everywhere Belt Bag, the College Cobalt Soft Jersey Half Zip Pullover, the Vapor License to Train Hoodie, the Heathered Core Ultralight Hoodie and the Heathered Core Ultra Light Long Scuba Oversized Half Zip. (Would it kill Lululemon to shorten the names of some of these items?) We’ve had the pleasure of wearing them for a couple of weeks and here are the pros and cons of the NHL x Lululemon line.

First off, the Belt Bag is a winner. It’s compact and, most importantly, arena friendly, so it’s an ideal bag to use for game nights. We both go to our fair share of Sabres games and my wife has made that her go-to choice for every game she goes to. It holds everything she needs for the game and with the Sabres logo on the front, it fits in nicely at the rink. She gets a ton of compliments on the Sabres belt bag and at $48, it’s easily the most affordable option of the entire line. While she hasn’t brought the Scuba Oversized Half Zip to a game just yet, it’s a pretty ideal gameday choice. It’s a fairly heavy duty sweater, with a plush fleece interior. The decoration is understated, so if you’re a fan of a more subdued look, this would be the choice. But from a warmth and comfort perspective, this would be an easy pick for any trip down to KeyBank Center.

I’ve found my two favorite items are the core Ultralight Hoodie and the College Half Zip. The half zip is a decent game day fit if you’re not a jersey guy and can double as office wear as well. The lone drawback is the lack of branding. For $108 I think most people would want some sort of Lululemon branding on the apparel they’re sporting. Regardless, as a half zip enjoyer, this is very much my vibe. It fits well and can be dressed up (as much as you can with logo gear) or down, which makes it a nice option for a game or otherwise.

The hoodie, however, is a winner. It looks great, especially the twill lettering on the front. I find that a lot of the Sabres apparel in the team store features way too many graphics or other design features that make the gear look way too busy. This is the opposite. The simple team name on the front and a smart patch on the right sleeve are understated but look great. The embroidery also gives it a very premium look and feel. One piece of advice, size up on this one. You might say that I’ve been slacking in my off ice conditioning a bit and went with a XXL on this out of an abundance of caution. That was a good choice as it’s a good fit for me at that size while an XL wouldn’t have found its way out of the closet.

You can apply the same logic to the Vapor License to Train Hoodie. A size up is a safe bet in that product. Sizing challenges aside, the Vapor Hoodie is my other personal favorite out of the Lululemon NHL apparel. It’s a sharp, lightweight hoodie that would be a great option for the golf course (insert drought joke here). The rubberized logo is a nifty addition and the hoodie itself is stretchy and airy. I’ve found myself reaching for Ultralight Hoodie more often than not lately, but once the weather warms up a bit in the spring, I think this will factor heavily into the rotation.

The price point on some of the items is steep, there’s no getting around that. But there is a healthy mix of options across several price tiers that you won’t be stuck paying more than you’d prefer if you have your heart set on a Lululemon NHL product.
